Learning more about parliamentary procedure.
The National Association of Parliamentarians® (NAP) is the largest professional association of parliamentarians in the world. NAP’s mission is to provide education and resources to facilitate efficient and democratic decision-making processes through the effective use of parliamentary procedure.
As stated in the NAP membership study guide, “… Mastering meetings requires a well-founded understanding and knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised 12th edition (RONR 12th ed.). A basic understanding of the fundamentals of parliamentary procedure will ease your journey tremendously, beginning with the NAP Membership Exam. ….”
NAP’s website provides: “The NAP membership exam is comprised of 44 questions based on Robert’s Rules of Order In Brief, 3rd Edition. In addition, their site also indicates: “Membership in NAP is only the first step. By further study and testing, a member may earn accreditation as a Registered Parliamentarian® (RP®), and then advance to the highest level of certification, Professional Registered Parliamentarian® (PRP®).”
What is happening in Manitoba?
Here in Manitoba, there are NAP members, who gather on a regular basis to network and hold educational classes on the various rules of parliamentary procedure. These peer-learning study groups help our members to increase their knowledge and skills so they are able to facilitate more effective, efficient, and fair meetings.
Our free sessions (via zoom) are open to all NAP members, as well as invited guests, who are also interested in learning more about Robert’s Rules of Order and perhaps, in the future, joining NAP and thereafter becoming a credentialed parliamentarian.
If you are interested in learning more about Robert’s Rules, and also building your own parliamentary network, please contact us at: info@parliamentarians-mb.ca.
All attendees are encouraged to purchase Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised In Brief (3rd edition) and also, the current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised (12th edition).
These books are available at any local bookstore, or as an e-book, however, NAP does offer a spiral bound version, which is very handy to use during your meetings. All NAP prices are quoted in US funds and shipping costs will apply:
